Scarlets coach Gareth Jenkins is hoping his side can match the Tykes’ Powergen Cup success of last season when they meet London Wasps on Sunday.
“I obviously wanted my team to successfully defend the title this season, but that was not to be. As an old Llanelli stalwart, the next best thing for me would be to see the Scarlets shine on Sunday,” said Davies. “I wish Gareth and his team all the very best on Sunday. I won five Welsh cup titles as a player with Llanelli, but coaching Leeds to that Powergen Cup victory over Bath at Twickenham last season ranks among my best days in rugby.
“It was the first time a Yorkshire rugby team had won a major trophy at union rather than league. For me it was the pinnacle of 10 years hard work at Headingley that has seen the Tykes move from being an amateur team languishing in the fourth division to a fully professional outfit that has competed against the best club teams in Europe over the past five years.”
