YOUNG HAILS PACK AS BLUES MARCH ON

DRAGONS 13 BLUES 18
Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips and wing Chris Czekaj both crossed but it was the Blues forwards who produced a workmanlike 18-13 victory over local rivals the Dragons at a rain-soaked Rodney Parade. It was the Blues fifth successive win and took then above Munster in the league.

Young said: “We’re pretty pleased to win five in a row and win five out of six against out Welsh rivals. I don’t think we’ve achieved that before as the Blues.

“It was a great effort by our forwards, hard graft because you don’t come up against  a weak Dragons pack. Sometimes you’ve got to win ugly.

“We gifted them points in the first half to keep them in it and the match totally fell away in the second half as we got dragged into a kicking match.

“But I thought we were the better team and blew a lot of chances to win by more.”

The result was the Dragons second narrow defeat in five days following their 15-10 loss at Connacht though another bonus point, for losing by less than seven points, saw Paul Turner’s side draw level with Scarlets in the battle for Heineken Cup qualification. Turner said: “We are not too dismayed because we were beaten by a better side on the night.”
