WALES WOMEN CONFIRM FIXTURES AGAINST CANADA
Wales Development will face Canada XV on Tuesday 2nd May at UWIC RFC (7pm kick off), with Wales playing Canada in a capped international on Saturday 6th May at Glamorgan Wanderers RFC (2.30pm kick off). Prior to arriving in Wales, Canada will play a test against Ireland in Galway, on Saturday 29th April.
After their most successful Six Nations ever in which they recorded a 2nd place finish, Wales will be looking to take on a Canada side that are seeded 4th for the forthcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup. This will provide Wales with an opportunity to once again show that they are at the forefront of women’s rugby and are more than capable of competing at the highest level.
The last two sides last met back in October 2001 when Canada visited Wales for a three match test series. Canada won the first test 7-21, but Wales pulled back the score to 11-12 in the second and ground out a 13-13 draw in the final match.
Manager of Women’s and Girls’ Rugby, Jilly Holroyd, is delighted about the visit of Canada “The opportunity to play against a side of the calibre of Canada will be superb for both Wales international squads. The Canadians are a very athletic outfit that will certainly put our fitness and stamina to the test.”
