The former Celtic Warrior sustained a neck injury in his side’s recrent friendly with Worcester.
And the injury appeared to have put the Wales international back row forward out of action for a number of months, but further medical assessment has alleviated fears of a season on the sidelines.
‘The scan on his shoulder and neck suggests that he will be sidelined for weeks rather than months,’ said Blues coach Dai Young.
‘The worst-case scenario seems to suggest four-to-six weeks before he can play again.’
Budgett moved to the Blues from the Warriors in the summer.
‘Nathan’s injury was most unfortunate as he has worked incredibly hard to reach full fitness,’ added Young.
