SCARLETS CAMP HIT BY FLU

Matthew Watkins, No.8 Andy Powell and wing Tal Selly have all missed training this week leaving the Scarlets unable to name a full team for the crunch game in Pool Three. Wales centre Watkins – who has scored five tries in his last five games – is also struggling to shake off a rib injury while British Lions Scott Quinnell, Robin McBryde and Mark Taylor are all also missing.

“It has been a hard task to name a team with the flu bug coming on top of the normal knocks that you wouldn’t want,” said Scarlets’ director of rugby Gareth Jenkins. “We are going to have to wait until the 11th hour before naming the last man as we want to give Matthew every last chance to make such a crucial game. However we are confident that the players who go out there will represent the club with a 100 per cent record.”

The Scarlets knocked the Saints out of the Heineken Cup last season in the final game of their pool but will fail to make the quarter-finals for only the second time in their history if they lose on Sunday. Northampton would similarly be out if they lost.
