Only two Welsh Premiership games survived at the weekend due to international call-ups and bad weather.

Caerphilly, still looking for their first win of the season, hosted Neath, while Ebbw Vale, fresh from their midweek victory at Swansea, were at home to Bridgend.

Caerphilly 23 Neath 41

Caerphilly coach Mark Ring: ‘We were the architects of our own downfall. The referee Stuart Dickinson did a good job in very harsh conditions. He kept the game flowing which made a nice change.

‘We gave away some silly tries and that cost us the game.’

Neath coach Lyn Jones: ‘The conditions were so bad that after 10 minutes the game became a lottery and all our pre-match plans went out of the window.

‘Having said that we were pleased to have won the game and pleased to see a referee showing some sympathy towards the situation.’

Ebbw Vale 6 Bridgend 7

Ebbw Vale coach Mike Ruddock: ‘We did very well in the first half but couldn’t keep it going for the whole match.

‘But let’s not take anything away from Bridgend, they played very well.’

Bridgend forwards coach Richard Webster: ‘The boys had a bit of a roasting at half-time, because they’d become complacent and were just watching the game.

‘In fairness they did well in the second half. They played it how we wanted, through the pack.

‘A lot of better sides than us would have lost up here on a day like this. We showed massive character.’

Bridgend coach Allan Lewis said: ‘Richard Webster has done tremendous work with our eight who have been much maligned in the past.’

Bridgend captain Dafydd James: ‘We needed to come up here and get a win and that is exactly what we did.’

What do you think…

When will Caerphilly win?

With Dafydd James scoring at the weekend, should he be in the Wales squad?
