Scottish Development v Welsh Students

The Scots, who have recently returned from a week long training camp in Spain, are the country’s second squad and defended faultlessly against the numerous Welsh attacks. Unfortunately a couple of lapses of concentration, both around 20 minutes into each half, allowed the home team to run in 2 tries from counter attacks launched well within their own half.

Despite repeated attacks by Wales, including outstanding performances by captain Kathryn Gubb, fly-half Bethan Walsh and No.8 Rachel Merriman, the visitors failed to make use of their territorial advantage and never quite managed to break through the strong Scottish defence.

The entire 22 strong Welsh squad made wholehearted contributions to the game and the last nail biting 10 minutes of the match took place inside the Scottish 22m area. Replacement back row Johanna Breyer eventually crossed the line in the dying minutes but was deemed offside and the score remained at 10-0.

Head Coach, Nadine Griffiths, said “I was very pleased with the performance.  The girls never gave up and continually pressurised.  For the last 20 minutes we were camped in the opposition 22, still putting the pressure on, but were unlucky not to capitalise on the position.”
