WALES SCHOOLS SUFFER LOSS

Numerous changes had given hope of a much improved performance but the Welsh forwards played second fiddle for most of the game to a well organised and more muscular English pack.
The Welsh backs looked in lively form but possession was limited or else poor and England were always in control until a late but fruitless Welsh rally.

England had a number of outstandingly combative performers up front in No 8 Ed Jackson (Millfield), flanker Andrew Saul (Bancrofts) and lock James Cannon (Bishop Stopford), son of Northampton legend lock Vince Cannon. They also had too a very neat and tidy fly half in captain Adam Greenslade (Hymers).

Even with a strong first half wind, Wales failed to impose any pattern on the game, their only reward two penalties by Penyrheol CS full back Leigh Halfpenny. Wing Daniel Evans (Amman Valley CS) would have scored if he had clung on to a pass from centre Tom Williams (Brynteg CS) but chances were few and far between.

Wales trailed 10-6 at the interval to a blind side try by prop Alec Kingham (Marlborough) and a conversion and penalty from the impressive Greenslade. Greendale dictated tactics well after the break, his well weighted chip creating a try for centre Ben Williams (Bryanston) and his conversion and two penalties pulled England clear.

It was not until the final minutes that Wales looked anywhere near threatening when Evans weaved upfield in exciting fashion and a number of close range scrums came near to scores. But it was far too late in the day to alleviate the taste of bitter disappointment in the mouth of all the heavy home support.
