PONTYCLUN 0 – TYLORSTOWN 34

Club graphic

All the hard work that the girls have put in during the close season paid off almost as handsomely as their coaches with the Tyly girls looking fit from the kick off. The Tylorstown forwards were well led by new captain and veteran of the boiler house Rachel Gibbins and were more than a match for their counterparts, pushing them back off the first four scrums and winning significant lineout ball.

The first half was a stop start affair with some hard hitting tackling coming in from tighthead prop Jamie Kift who was a constant thorn in the side of the home team.

The first of Tylorstown’s six tries came from their young openside, whipper-snapper, Amy Thompson, who showed the Pontyclun defence a clean pair of heels from 30 yards after good driving play from Kristy Thomas. A second try quickly followed after quick 3rd phase ball led to debutant Naomi Thomas crossing under the posts that she duly converted.

The second half started with Pontyclun pressing hard for a score, but no matter what they tried they got no change out of the Tylorstown defence. The Tyly girls tackled everything that came towards them and showed great character not to give an inch and on numerous occasions turning ball over and changing defence into attack. Tyly’s next couple of tries came from deep into their own half when they decided to put a bit of depth to their game, leading to two tries from their International full back Non Evans.

The scoring was completed by their awesome centre partnership of Clare Flowers and Lulu Daniels, both of which left would be tacklers in their path.

The final score was 0-34 to Tylorstown which was the first victory recorded this season by any side from the club, which they hope will spur the girls on to a successful campaign.
