Last season it was the South who proved to be the stronger of the two sides, but on this occasion, the North came out on top thanks to tries from Matthew Howells, Rhys Williams and Daniel Lewis.

Gary Williams got the board moving with an 11th minute penalty and the North led 8-0 at the break thanks to Howells’ 34th minute try that went uncoverted. Captain Williams added his side’s second try 17 minutes into the second half and although James Loxton bagged a try for thye South, converted by Luke Fear, the North finished the stronger with Lewis scoring the conclusive try three minutes from time.


In the other U16 game, the Dragons defeated the Ospreys 13-12 in a real thriller at the welfare Ground, Newbridge. Adam Hughes dropped a goal to put the Dragons in front but Jason Jones raced over for the first of two first half tries to wrestle the advantage for the Ospreys.


Jamie Woods scored for the Dragons before Jones’ second and a Daniel Biggar conversion edged the Ospreys back in front at 12-8. However, the Dragons were not to be outdone and they made it two wins in three games for coach Stuart Lawrence thanks to a try from the utstanding flanker Rhys Jenkins.


The Scarlets were 38-11 winners against the Dragons at Caerphilly’s Virginia Park. The Dragons were 8-0 to the good inside seven minutes thanks to a Jason Tovey penalty try and a penalty from David Langdon. However, after Tovey’s second penalty, the Ospreys pulled clear with tries from Rhys Williams, Matthew Lemon (2), Matthew Evans, Justin James and Daniel Evans with Evans adding four conversions.


The other game saw the Blues hammer the Ospreys 35-3 at Pontypridd’s Sardis Road.
