The Bath stand-off is hoping his club’s 29-22 friendly victory over the newly formed Celtic Warriors will be the prelude to a return to Wales this weekend to play in the World Cup warm-up Test at the Millennium Stadium.

England coaches Clive Woodward and Andy Robinson were on hand to watch Catt prove the hamstring problems that dogged him all last season are now a thing of the past and he could yet add to his 50+ caps over the next few weeks.

‘I knew someone from the England management would be coming down to watch, but I’m not sure what they made of it,’ said Catt.
‘I was a bit rusty, but physically I felt great. I didn’t feel the hamstring at all and I thought I kicked out of hand pretty well.

‘It all just depends on what Clive Woodward is thinking. But I’m smiling, I’m happy, I’ve just 80 minutes of rugby under my belt and we won – it was a good afternoon’s work.

‘I haven’t concerned myself with thinking about international rugby. I’ve just been concentrating on trying to sort myself out.
‘I focussed on my health and fitness rather than things I cannot control around me. I feel pretty good.

‘But If I get a sniff against Wales I will be extremely happy. I’m desperate to get one more chance at international rugby.
‘With such a good England side at the moment, it is very hard to get in there. But if I get a chance I hope I can produce the goods.’

Brendan Daniel scored a hat-trick of tries as Bath inflicted a first defeat on the Warriors. Centre Alex Crockett and prop Chris Goodman also went over for tries and Ollie Barkley added two conversions.

The Warriors had tries from prop Chris Horsman, full back Matthew Nuthall and lock Ryan Jones. Neil Jenkins added two conversions and a penalty.

Former Wales skipper Jon Humphreys spent 10 minutes in the sin-bin for an offence at the scrum.
