In the end, it was former Wales and British & Irish Lions back row star Andy Powell’s Brecon side that came out on top 32-14 in a game that featured a hat-trick of tries from visiting full back Eifion Jones. It was the first time in eight league outings Brynmawr had been beaten this season, and only their third defeat in 28.
Victory didn’t take Brecon to the top of the table, Brynmawr are still a point clear due to playing one more game, but if they keep on winning there will be no denying them. They face another mighty challenge when third placed Penallta head to Parc de Pugh on 8 December.
With that hat-trick of tries from Jones, and a fourth to secure the bonus point from Ewan Williams, Brecon found themselves 25 points clear at one stage. A late try from Brynmawr cut the final gap to 18 points.
