Wales prop Martyn Madden and Irish international scrum-half Guy Easterby come in for John Davies and Dwayne Peel respectively, in a tactical switch which coach Gareth Jenkins hopes will give the Scarlets greater ball carrying ability.

‘We are lucky enough to be in a position to make changes to the side and Martyn and Guy will both contribute as ball carriers and offer something different,’ said Jenkins.

‘We have picked the team we think has the best chance of beating Glasgow and it is a purely tactical switch.’

The Scarlets know they have a tough task ahead of them, but must record a win or a draw in Scotland to be sure of a place in the Heineken Cup quarter finals.

They have lost in all three previous visits to Hughenden and will be aware of Glasgow’s impressive home record, losing only four times in 14 matches.

‘We have not done well in Scotland in the past for a number of reasons. It’s a big ask in terms of travel and, more importantly, they have a lot of quality in their side with international players in the front, second and back row,’ added Jenkins.

‘Glasgow have lost heavily here and in Sale but we all know it is a different story for them at home. They are formidable opposition up there and we have a huge game on our hands.

‘They play at a high tempo with Hayes as a general for them in midfield and they can take you on up front or play out wide with equal prowess.

‘They are able to mix it up in all aspects of play and have a great balance to the way they approach the game. We know they can blow hot and cold and sometimes not play for the full 80 minutes, but that won’t be a factor in front of their home crowd, so we are expecting a very tough contest.

‘But this is a European game with qualification for the quarter-finals riding on it, not just a Celtic league match with two points at stake. It’s a must win occasion for us.

‘And we have been able to prepare well and have been blessed with a full, injury free squad to choose from, with the exception of Salesi Finau.’
