‘The Prince of Centres’ represented Wales on 22 occasions, and had the honour of playing for the British and Irish Lions in five Tests.

A veteran of Word War II, Williams also played for Wales in 3 Services & 7 Victory internationals during the conflict.

wru.co.uk would like to pay tribute to a man whose leadership and unquestionably special rugby ability set the standard for the golden era of Welsh rugby.

Bleddyn Llewellyn Williams
Born Taffs Well 22/2/1923.
22 caps for Wales (1947-1955) – 7 tries.
5 tests for the Lions in Australia (2) & New Zealand (3) in 1950.
Also played for Wales in 3 Services & 7 Victory internationals during WWar 2.
Holds best-ever Wales captaincy record (won 5 lost 0).
Also skippered Cardiff to beat the 1953-4 All Blacks. Played against many touring sides, including Kiwis 45/46, Australia 47/48 & South Africa 51/52.
All his seven brothers played for Cardiff. Lloyd Williams skippered Wales.

A better sportsman never played the game.
