OLIVIER MAGNE

Share this page:

Position – Flanker

Date of birth – 11 April, 1973

Place of birth – Aurillac, France

International debut – 15 Feb, 1997, v Wales

Height – 6′ 3′ Weight – 15st 9lb

Tests – 62 (10 tries)

The Montferrand captain has been considered one of the world’s finest backrowers for several seasons, and his long, loping strides out in the centres have resulted in 10 Test tries.

Magne turns 30 next month and will be looking to add considerably to the 62 caps that put him 12th on the all-time French list of Test appearances.

The big man made his debut as a replacement against Wales six years ago, and joins fellow forward Fabien Pelous as the only survivor from that team to take on Wales this Saturday.

Magne’s powerful defence and aptitude at the lineout, combined with his ability to make valuable yards out wide, make him a starter in many fans’ World XV, and his combination with hard-working flanker Serge Betson and promising No 8 Imanol Harindorquoy will be the first thing Wales have to break down if they hope to win three Tests in a row in Paris.
