Three first half tries, two from former Monmouth RFC Samoan, Amosa Nove, were followed by five second half scores as the scroe grew from 23-3 to 43-3 by the end. Aaron Quick bagged the bonus point just after the re-start before Ieuan Jones, Lewis Ball, Mike Herbert and Adam Stratton all got in on the act.
Meanwhile, in the battle of third verses second, Bargoed got the better of Bedwas 26-10 and remain 11 points back. Grant Rogers’ first half unconverted try gave the Bulls a narrow 5-3 interval lead which extended to 12-3 after a penalty try early in the second half.
Owain Keane replied for the Wass, converted by Dion McIntosh as he added to his first half penalty, to pull the score back to 12-10. But Bargoed’s dominant scrum proved the difference and further tries from Darren Humphries and Huw Rees, both converted by Steff Jones, secured maximum points.
It saw them bounce back from a narrow 13-10 defeat at Pontypool before Christmas while also inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Bedwas.
Ystrad Rhondda finally hauled themselves off the bottom as they picked up their first win since the opening day of the season with a 34-7 triumph at Beddau. Jarrad Llewellyn scored twice with Cole Swannack, Kurtis Williams and Corey Green grabbing the other tries.
Maesteg Quins ran in a magnificent seven tries in their thumping 47-16 win over Tata Steel. Cameron Jones (2), Rhys Costain, Mathew Tidball, Lewis Tutt, Paul Songhurst and Jay Ronan all touched down with Tadhg McGuckin kicking 12 points.
Elsewhere, Narberth enjoyed a memorable 24-22 win at Neath. Tom Powell, Rhys Lane and a penalty try were their scorers, with Nick Gale kicking the rest.
Trebanos rounded off 2019 on a winning note as they recorded an 18-10 success at Ystalyfera to end a six-game losing streak. Tries from prop Dylan Worth and skipper Rhys Thomas, along with two penalties and a conversion from Richard Brunton, secured a first win on the road this term for Trebanos.
It was also just their second league win of the campaign and first since they beat Ystrad Rhondda 24-16 at Trebanos Park on 5 October. Full-back Steffan Castle kicked a penalty for the Fera in addition to a penalty try.
Both sides remain in the bottom four although the win for Trebanos moved them to within two points of fifth bottom Cross Keys. Next up for Trebanos is a trip to the Gnoll on Saturday to face Neath – where they were beaten 24-0 in the first round of the National Cup back on 14 September.
Ystalyfera, who are second from bottom in the table, welcome fellow bottom four outside Ystrad Rhondda to the Ynysydarren Ground on Saturday as they look to add to their two league victories so far.
