Rhodri Gomer-Davies, a try-scorer in Wales’ 44-27 victory over England on Wednesday picked up a dead leg in that game and is unlikely to be fit for Sunday’s fifth/sixth place play-off. The same goes for Jonathn Vaughton who has a pelvic injury. Number 8 Mark Lewis is also doubtful due to an elbow injury.
Coach Chris Davey said, ‘We are now feeling the strains of a tough couple of weeks of top level competition and we have a number bumps and bruises to manage. Let’s just say we are feeling the pace at this stage.
‘Having said that, fifth place is still there to play for and if we finish the tournament having won four games out of five, we can be pleased with our efforts.
‘Our aim was to finish fourth, Argentina have gone through and probably taken that spot but we beat Argentina so if we finish fifth behind them that won’t be far from what we were aiming for. We must aim to produce the level of play we have shown we are capable of so far in the competition.’
