Wru Word Search

The Welsh Rugby Union marketing team has begun its search for a key word and slogan which can inspire the nation.

Wales face two tough World Cup warm up matches at the Millennium Stadium in August, against world championship favourites England and Celtic cousins Scotland, as well as a trip to Ireland.

And they are calling for supporters around the country to join in and come up with the right words and slogan to capture the mood in Wales and show the world what it means to be a Welsh rugby fan.

There is a positive mood within the corridors of power at the WRU and sweeping changes to the structure of the game have given rise to high optimism for the future.

‘The sense is that we must be realistic whilst tapping into the strong emotions our national sport creates,’ said WRU commercial manager Gwyn Thomas.

‘We know all about the passion and fervour that overflows around our towns and cities when Wales are on a winning run.

‘But that high emotion doesn’t go away just because the first team doesn’t win a game.

‘The voices are quieter, but the support and passion is still out there and we are looking for the right way to express what everyone in Wales is feeling at the moment.

Wales is rugby. Win or lose, it always will be – and we know that when the nation joins together it can only make Wales stronger.’

Staff at the Union and the Millennium Stadium, have had two days to mull this over already and the best list so far has come from the Stadium security staff.

The night-watch team last night came up with ‘Inspiration, Hope, Focus, Spirit, Gusto, Emotion, Aspirations and Empower’.

Slogans to accompany the one symbolic word should be akin to other campaigns fans see in the market place. Nike for example have ‘just do it’, Mr Kipling makes ‘exceedingly good cakes’ and Liverpool and Celtic football clubs have claimed the mantra ‘you’ll never walk alone’.

But the WRU is asking what word and phrase would inspire you?

All serious answers will be published on the WRU official website wru.co.uk – and one of them will be the word and slogan used in a promotional campaign this summer.

There will also be a prize of a pair of tickets to watch Wales v England on 23 August and Wales v Scotland on 30 August at Millennium Stadium for two lucky winners, drawn at random, who pick the right word and slogan.

Entries will be collected via the ‘enter’ button below and fans should be sure to include full contact details with all suggestions.
