Aberavon have survived with a 100 per cent record, while Newport added a draw to their two earlier wins and Llandovery remain the only club without a victory.

Crowds generally have been good in size and patient with the new younger blood in the squads as they learn their trade with some exciting rugby beginning to flow.

Aberavon have lost many of last season’s squad, yet they held too many aces last night for a Swansea side fresh from a 45-3 win over Cardiff. Last season’s Division One champions Pontypool gained their first win with a battling performance at Eugene ross Park over Ebbw Vale, but lost four backs with injuries.

While Chris O’Callaghan waved his Wizards wand at the Talbot Athletic Ground in a 23-14 defeat of Swansea, Bridgend pulled off a fine 35-26 success against Cardiff with a 5-4 try-count.

Pontypool scored 4-1 on tries at Ebbw Vale to win 26-16, but Nicky Lloyd, Stuart Lawrence, James Rowles and Ben Jeffries are all doubtful for Saturday.

There were draws at Bedwas (25-all against Caerphilly) and at Pontypridd (20-all against Newport), though Ponty had led 20-0 at one stage.

Llanelli gained their first win, by 21-18 at Neath, despite five penalties and a drop goal by former Cardiff under-21 fly half Chris Anderson for Neath, and Carmarthen Quins also gained their first point when prop Mark O’Kelly’s try helped defeat Llandovery 10-3.

In a derby battle, Newbridge did well to not only defeat neighbours Cross Keys by 29-16, but also run in five tries to one in reply.while Newport added a draw to their two earlier wins and Llandovery remain the only club without a victory.
