Davies became the 50th President of the WRU in October 2019, but has spent much of his time in the role to date under the restrictions of the pandemic.
The resolution, which was passed unanimously by WRU member clubs attending the 2021 AGM at the Vale Resort, Hensol, increases the term of a Presidential office from three to four years.
This means Davies, and all WRU Presidents who may follow, will now be guaranteed to take in a World Cup during their tenure.
“We are delighted this resolution got through,” said WRU chief executive Steve Phillips. “Gerald has been in post for a while but because of the last year-and-a-half he probably has not been able to do what he has wanted to do.
“It also seemed an opportune time to give every President a chance to go to a World Cup, so we thought it would be a good thing to do.”
Elsewhere at the AGM a further resolution was passed to modernise the voting process with clubs now able to call for a ballot vote, rather than the traditional show of hands, at any time.
Three WRU National Directors began three year terms at the AGM, with Colin Charvis and John Manders both re-elected to post, joined by Claire Donovan who was elected unopposed after John Morgan stood down.
There were also four District Directors beginning further terms, with both Chris Jones and Gordon Eynon re-elected during the year and Kevin Lewis and Alun Roberts both elected after standing unopposed after Hywel Roberts and Brian Fowler stood down.
Finally, Independent Non Executive Directors Henry Engelhardt and Catherine Read were welcomed to their first AGM, after being appointed in March to replace Aileen Richards and Tim Griffin.
The affect these changes in personnel may have on the make-up of the WRU Board, will be confirmed at the next meeting of Board and Council.
