It was a victory which left Wizards head coach Jason Hyatt delighted.
“We are obviously delighted with the win having scored five tries and a bonus point in Swansea. In fairness to Swansea, they came out in the second half firing, putting together a really good 25 minutes,” Hyatt said.
“But for all the mistakes we made against Llandovery, I thought we put things right today as we showed some real composure going into the crucial last 10 minutes. We got our driving line-out going well and we finished the game in style.
“The last 10 minutes was the only realistic time we had a chance of scoring points in the second half and I was very pleased we took our chances. I thought Matthew Jenkins did really well to get his two tries and we really dug in and found a way to win.
“We now look forward to another local derby next week against Bridgend in a match that traditionally means a lot of open rugby.”
The visitors took an early lead from an attacking scrum when Rhodri Coles got quick ball out for Stef Andrews to score.
It was an ill-disciplined opening period by the home side who gave away eight penalties in a row.
The Wizards took advantage by finding touch on the 22 and their pack drove upfield for Lloyd Evans to crash over for a try.
A third Wizards touch down followed soon after when Jenkins burst out of a tackle and was held up on the line. Coles recycled the ball out wide for Andrews to squeeze over.
In the closing moments of the half, Kian Abraham used his pace to break through a tackle and he found Ben Ley with an inside pass for a Swansea try.
Hanno Dirksen made a break through the middle as the home side looked to attack after half time. Charlie Davies took the line-out and his pack kept their cool to drive him over for a try at the corner.
Aberavon retook the lead through an Aled Thomas penalty after referee Jason Bessant reversed a decision following Swansea dissent.
Chay Smith was yellow carded for a late tackle on Kian Abraham who chipped through into space. James Davies opted to kick at goal into a strong wind.
But the Wizards hit back and secured a bonus point when a powerful drive by the pack saw Coles get the ball out wide for Jenkins to score.
And in the dying seconds Leon McNally was shown a second yellow card with the visitors sealing victory through a well taken Jenkins try in the corner.
Llandovery’s 16-0 win over Carmarthen Quins virtually guarantees Euros Evans’ side a top-two spot and a semi-final against one of the top two in the east conference.
The Drovers clinched the double over their regional rivals with an outstanding second-half defensive performance in the face of driving wind and rain which kept their opponents scoreless.
Llandovery were ahead inside three minutes when a chip ahead by fly-half Kristian Jones was gathered by centre Craig Woodall who sent wing Callum Williams racing in under the posts.
Jones converted and only desperate Quins defence held up prop Jamie Hughes for a second home try.
But the fly-half soon added a penalty before full-back Will Thomas was wide with a drop goal attempt.
The Quins found progress hard playing into the strong wind and went further behind to another Jones penalty before fly-half Jac Wilson missed a difficult penalty for the visitors.
A close-range line-out gave the Quins their first big chance and although Llandovery gave away four penalties in succession against waves of attacks, their tackling held up.
On the stroke of half time, Jones hoofed over his third penalty for a deserved but by no means decisive 16-0 lead.
With the wind and rain in their favour, the Carmarthen pack dominated territorially but found the Llandovery defence terrier-like in the badly deteriorating weather.
Centre Josh Batcup was yellow carded for a late tackle on home scrum-half Lee Rees but a long kick from Quins scrum-half Rhodri Davies set up a line-out which all but brought a try.
Pounding pressure was answered by relentlessly brave tackling as the Drovers resisted all that the Quins could throw at them.
A hat-trick of tries from Bridgend hooker Gareth Harvey fired the Ravens to a comprehensive 43-16 bonus-point win over Llanelli at the Brewery Field.
After a cagey opening 10 minutes, Bridgend claimed the game’s first try when wing Caine Woolerton touched down at the far right-hand corner.
Then after a period of sustained pressure tighthead prop Cai Lewis powered over from short-range.
Matthew Jones converted but Llanelli fought their way back into the game when outside-half Josh Phillips raced clear to score. Ioan Hughes added the extras and kicked a penalty, but Bridgend’s pack held the upper hand with the pressure forcing Llanelli’s Jacob Lewis into the sin bin.
Harvey crossed for his first try with a powerful burst scattering the Llanelli defence. Joe Gatt made the most of Bridgend’s numerical advantage to score, but the hosts were soon down to 13 men when Aled Evans and Rhodri Apsee were sin binned for killing the ball.
But Bridgend were completely dominant in the second half with second row Kieran Martin claiming the bonus point as he powered over the line.
Llanelli’s Dylan Lawley and Morgan McCraw were also yellow carded for technical offences which allowed Harvey to touch down off the back of a driving line-out.
Harvey was soon celebrating another try as Llanelli imploded and the Ravens sealed a comprehensive win with a late try for Martin.
