It is obviously early days, but Newport have already shown their hand in the Indigo Group Premiership on the attacking front.

With an opening round 25-9 victory against Bridgend at Newport Stadium, followed by a gutsy 25-30 triumph at Aberavon, there’s plenty to suggest Black & Amber fans may have something to shout about at the business end of the campaign.

Head coach Tyron Morris has assembled a dangerous looking squad and already the signs are there that they are going to take some stopping in attack.

Monmouth school product David Richards appears an exciting prospect from full-back. He has beaten more defenders (10) than any other player in the Premiership and looks a real threat with ball in hand.

Carmarthen Quins winger Morgan Griffiths, Pontypridd wide man Dale Stuckey and Llanelli full back Llew Smith are his nearest challengers with seven defenders beaten.

Newport also have two players inside the top three for clean line breaks. Aberavon winger Steff Andrews leads the way with four with Matt O’Brien hot on his heals with three with Black & Ambers teammate Elliot Frewen right behind him with two.
