Wanderers go with fresh approach

Glamorgan Wanderers unveil plenty of new faces for their SWALEC Championship opener against Ebbw Vale this weekend.

Up front last season’s Youth hooker Peter Lloyd starts alongside Rhys Jenkins and Gruff Roberts while in the back row South African Garrick Armstrong gets a first league start alongside regulars Dan Richards and Andrew Bradbury.

Behind the scrum Charlie Johnson takes the captaincy (Alex Luff has just become a father) and Sean Cochlin is trusted with control of the young back line from No10. Mike Stephens who missed a lot of last season due to injury takes his place at full back.

“As an opener it won’t come any harder than this. Our young players will certainly find out what it’s like at the sharp end of Championship rugby this weekend,” commented new head coach Matthew Bolton before the Wanderers home game against Ebbw Vale.

“I think our backs can defy their inexperience and they will give Ebbw a real challenge,” added backs coach Gareth Cull.
