Ospreys will fight for success

Steve Tandy has vowed to put the Ospreys back on track following their winless start to the season.

The reigning RaboDirect PRO12 champions have crashed to three consecutive defeats – the latest a 28-10 loss at the hands of Glasgow Warriors at the Liberty Stadium on Friday night.

Tandy admits it has been a hugely frustrating start to the region’s title defence but he insists his side will fight tooth and nail to get back to winning ways against the Scarlets on Friday.

“It was obviously a really disappointing night for us,” said the Ospreys’ head coach.

“We turned the ball over too cheaply, the set piece didn’t function and we conceded real cheap tries. With the basic errors we are making, we are not going to win games like that.

“We got exactly what we deserved out of the game, which was nothing. It’s the most disappointed I’ve been since taking charge and I know the guys are really disappointed.

“We are going to have to put a hell of a lot right to get the performance we need to win down there.

“There’s areas of our game we need to improve quite quickly. It’s something we will be fighting our damnedest to put right for Friday.

“I know what this group is like. They don’t like tasting defeat. It’s something as Ospreys we are not used to and it’s something we will be striving to put right. We need to start putting the performances in and winning games.”

As Alun Wyn Jones pointed out in the wake of the latest defeat, the Scarlets’ start to the season has been a polar opposite.

The Scarlets sit at the top of the PRO12 table, unbeaten and having racked up more points than any other team. And Tandy expects the Ospreys fierce cross-Loughor rivals to come out firing.

“I am sure they will want to pile on the misery. If I was in their shoes, I would want to do that,” added Tandy.

“I’m sure they can’t wait. They are going to be really keen. But I know it’s something our guys are going to thrive on. We’ve got the perfect game next Friday to put things right.

“There’s nothing more inspiring than going down the Scarlets for a game.”
