The Drovers have now won six and drawn two this season but had to fight for their lives to fend off the challenge of the well organised visitors. This well-earned draw takes Bedwas above Pontypridd who were not in action this week after their game with Llanelli was postponed.
Opposing coaches Lyndon Lewis and Steve Law have always made the most of available talent on a shoe string budget and both clubs have surprised many a big gun this season with some sterling displays.
They were well matched throughout, with both sides having chances to snatch a win in a tense last quarter.
Two minutes of constant attacking failed to bring Llandovery an early try but fly-half Rhys Jones put them ahead with a 30 metre penalty.
Driving rain made handling difficult and the home forwards took the ball on only to find the Bedwas defence water tight.
A fine tackle from centre Ross Wardle stopped a promising Drovers attack and the league’s leading points scorer, fly half Richard Powell, brought the visitors level with a penalty into the wind from 45 metres.
Llandovery got most of the ball but Bedwas and their hard working back row of Simon Grainger, Sam Feehan and Tom Organ were very adept at spoiling Llandovery possession.
Home centre Adam Warren showed flashes of a threat but Jones missed from 40 metres after Bedwas full-back Stuart Thomas had been yellow carded for interfering with a quick tap penalty.
Hooker Rhys Hutcherson and Feehan made ground in the loose for the visitors and no one could argue with a half-time score of 3-3.
Bedwas soaked up continuous home pressure but Jones failed with a kick from wide out as he looked to extend his side’s lead.
The greasy ball made the fielding of kicks difficult for both back threes and when Llandovery were penalised in the tackle area, Powell surprisingly missed from 30 metres.
In a nervous final quarter, Bedwas gave away a penalty for a high tackle and Jones made no mistake from 25 metres.
Back came Bedwas with a Powell penalty from 45 metres and, although the Drovers threw everything into attack, they could find no way through.
It was Powell who had the chance to win the game one minute from time but he saw his drop goal charged down from 30 metres.
