After securing an impressive derby victory over the previously unbeaten Blues North, the Cardiff region had their momentum halted when their midweek clash away to the Dragons last week was abandoned due to the weather.
It did not seem to matter though as Matt Silva’s side eventually secured a fairly easy victory, tearing their opponents’ defence to pieces in the first-half.
Tristan Notley, Harry Goodfellow and Tom Higgins all crossed as the Blues built a healthy lead before replacement Josh Rodgers’ try secured the win.
A score from Ianto Parry and a conversion and a penalty Danny Cross was all RGC could manage in response.
The South opened the scoring in just the fifth minute. Left winger Notley was the beneficiary, escaping the RGC defence to dot down and give his side a fast start. Fly-half and captain Luke Fish missed the conversion but Blues’ supporters did not have long to wait for the second score.
Scrum-half Goodfellow added a second score in the 13th minute, Fish this time successful with the conversion as the South built a 12-0 lead.
Front row forward Higgins added a further score as the Blues’ north Wales opponents struggled to cope with the power and pace of the South’s side. Fish was again successful with the conversion and after 39 minutes, it looked like the South would only extend their lead.
Staring at a 19-0 deficit, the game looked up for RGC though they rallied impressively.
Outside-half Cross got his team on the score board with a penalty before centre Parry gave RGC a sniff of a comeback. Cross converted and at 19-10, the game was suddenly back in the balance.
Shocked into a response though, the Blues made the game safe with a try from replacement Rodgers. Fish converted to seal the latest win for the inform South.
