Needing a bonus-point win to be crowned champions, Croesy did just that running in six tries as they overpowered the opposition.

“This is a fantastic achievement for the girls. Last season we finished in mid table but were getting stronger and stronger throughout the season,” said centre Nicola Smith.

“We have built on this and on our fitness and have now reaped the reward. Many of the girls are now seriously considering a place in the regional team and are also looking forward to the Cup competition in the New Year.”

Croesy’s initial game plan was completely disrupted by a stronger than expected Blackwood team that came out all guns blazing. They pinned Croesy back inside their own half for much of the first period but Croesy’s defence was as strong as ever and they could not break through.

And Blackwood were made to pay, Croesy managing to break away to score tries through centre Nicola Smith and back row Danielle Gagne for a half-time lead of 10-0.

Needing four tries to win the title, the league leaders came out looking much more composed for the second period and played with greater urgency and determination.

After some great phase play and good handling by the backs, the third try came from quick ball from Natalie Price to Sarah Thorne who crashed over the line. Charlotte Kembrey added the much needed fourth try to clinch the league.

Not content with the four tries and with the pressure now off, Croesy relaxed and two further tries came through Kristina Cantelo and captain, Hannah Roberts for a full-time score of 30-0.

Croesyceiliog are now recruiting women and girls to join the squad. Please contact Nicola Smith nsmith@wru.co.uk 07768 197897 for more information.
