With the Parc Y Scarlets pitch in superb condition, the persistent rain did have some influence on the quality of the game but both sides remained committed to playing an entertaining game.

James Dixon had the opportunity to put the first points on the board with an easy kick but surprisingly went for the corner.

From the resulting lineout, Llanelli turned over Quins’ ball and worked themselves up field for Diggy Bird to kick a penalty.
Despite the unforced errors, both sides were entertaining the crowd and Carmarthen drew level with a penalty from James Dixon after 28 minutes.

Llanelli immediately went on the attack and a flowing movement inside the Quins 22 resulted in hooker Ricky Guest being shown a yellow card by referee Greg Morgan for killing the ball.

The 14 man Quins defence held firm and Llanelli could only muster another penalty from Bird to go in at half-time three points up.

Llanelli came out of the blocks in the second period and were starting to gradually dominate proceedings, But again the determined Quins defence was holding firm and it took two well constructed tries by Dale Ford and Chris Keenan, both converted by Bird to give the home team some leeway.

Carmarthen were grafting to get back into the game only to find the superb Llanelli defence, equal to the task.

Late in the game, two yellow cards issued for ‘professional fouls’ against Ed Price and Lawrence Reynolds saw the defence eventually crack as replacement Chris Banfield crossed for the final score of the match.
