The Bulls are now seven points clear at the top but they did not have it all their own way. Ystalyfera put up a defiant showing in the first half and only trailed Bargoed by four points at the halfway stage. Ultimately, Bargoed’s attacking flair and conviction was the difference between the two sides in what was the only league match of the weekend.
Ystrad Rhondda claimed an away 29-13 victory over Glamorgan Wanderers to get within touching distance of WRU Championship Cup leaders Bargoed and Neath. Ystrad scored five tries in total with Carl Williams scoring a brace as well as Jarred Llewellyn, Jack Foulkes and Kurtis Williams all getting on the scoresheet. Foulkes scored the try of the game with a long distance interception.
The Wanderers are yet to win a game in this seasons Championship Cup and despite putting up a solid display they were left to rue a lot of missed opportunities. Cardiff Met kept their WRU Championship Plate hopes alive with a hard fought 29-17 win over second place Bedwas.
Met showed good character to bounce back from two consecutive defeats in the plate and they are now just five points off the top. The trusted boot of Bradley Roderick-Evans kicked a crucial 19 points for the Archers which ultimately propelled the university side to victory.
The Met tries came from Bradley Denty and Oliver Andrews, whilst the Bedwas try scorers were James Richards and Lewis Bowden. Cardiff Met director of rugby Danny Milton was particularly pleased with Andrews’ try and described it as a “great team effort.”
