Newcastle Emlyn move to the top of Division One West

A try from Tomos Phillips enabled Crymych to topple Hendy 13-10 and allow unbeaten Newcastle Emlyn to take over at the top of Admiral Division 1 West.

 Adam Phillips chipped in with a conversion, penalty and drop goal to complete the march to victory and inflict only the second defeat of the campaign on the visitors. Crymych’s victory took them to within  a point of Hendy in second. 

The result was even better news for title chasing Newcastle Emlyn, who made it six wins out of six with a hard-fought 20-26 triumph at Llanelli Wanderers. They are now a point clear at the top, while Llangennech, in fourth, are the only other unbeaten side in the league. 

 There was drama at the death in the Division 1 West Central clash at Birchgrove, where the home side snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Waunarlwydd. Down 13-7 with time running out, Birchgrove won a penalty and kicked down the line. 

 It was all or nothing and Steff Castle came up with the try that enabled them to kick the match-winning conversion and make it 14-13. The other home try was scored by Lima Richards.  In Division 1 North, Nant Conwy showed why they sitting at the top of the table as they won 45-0 at home against Llangefni.

There was a hat-trick of tries for Sion Pringle, two from Rhydian Jones and one from Carwyn Ellis.  The win keeps Nant Conwy four points clear of reigning champions Llandudno, although the Goats have a game in hand.

They went to Bethesda and ran out victors by 45-21, while Bala won 20-15 at home against Pwllheli to leapfrog them into fourth, while Ruthin beat Caernarfon 47-25.  Penallta strode to a 64-33 win at Monmouth to stretch their lead at the top of Division 1 East to nine points as their extended their unbeaten run to seven games.

William Keep scored twice for the visitors as did Geraint Powell of the home side.  Brynmawr moved up into second place thanks to their 19-17 home win over Pontypool United.

Tries from Josh Congrieve, Mitchell Rankin and Adam Lane steered the Mawr to victory and Liam Butler converted two of them.    Tries from Tom and Chris Maton and Marvin Hutchings helped Division 1 East Central leaders Rumney hold onto top spot in a 22-5 home win over St Jospeh’s. Chris Maton also kicked a conversion and penalty.
