Bargoed made it 10 out of 10 in the Admiral Championship as they took a giant step towards clinching the title with a 22-10 home win over Pontypool.

The victory took them five points clear at the top with only three games left to play after the WRU ruled last week there would not be a play-off between the top four to  determine the winners.

No team has won at Bargoed Park this season and despite a decent opening by Pooler, that saw them take the lead with a try from lock Ashley Sweet, they then conceded tries to home heroes Josh Prosser, Steffan Thomas, and James Leadbetter. The Bulls have to travel to Ystrad Rhondda and Maesteg Quins and host Trebanos to complete their campaign.

In the only other Championship game played at the weekend, Narberth thrashed Glamorgan Wanderers 50-17 to move up into fifth place. The Otters scored seven tries in a dominant display at a venue where they had been held to a 26-26 draw in the Championship Cup earlier in the season.

There was a debut try for outside half Jonny George, to kick-off proceedings and then a push over score from No 8 Riche Rees. Both tries were converted by George.

Further tries flowed from Rhys Williams and Josh Davies before the break and George took his first-half tally up to 16 points with two more conversions and a penalty to make it 31-0. The home side opened the scoring in the second half, but it didn’t take long for the visitors to get back into mode.

Bradley Davies, George MacDonald and Dan Smith added further tries and there were two more George conversions to complete the rout. The Wanderers scored two more tries before the end.
