Llandovery College will have revenge in mind when they host Cardiff & Vale College in the fourth round of games in the WRU National Schools & Colleges League.

It was CAVC who came out on top the last time the two teams met in the 2022 final at Principality Stadium, taking the title for the first time with a 23-17 victory. Something will certainly have to give this week when the reigning champions turn up because both teams boast unbeaten records this season.

Llandovery have won all three games to date to currently stand one point behind table-topping Glantaf. Victories over Bridgend College (64-7), Whitchurch HS (24-13) and Neath Port Talbot College (17-10) have given Nathan Thomas’ side a good base to build on.

CAVC sat out the first round but wasted no time in getting up and running and scored 194 points and 30 tries in their opening two games. They started with an eight try, 52-13 victory at Bridgend College and then ran in 22 tries in a 142-0 home win over luckless Pembrokeshire College.

Rhys Mottram has already notched 45 points in two games and Scott Delnovo, Blessing Kilonda and Tom Hughes have each scored four tries. It promises to be a huge game that could have a big bearing on who stays the course to reach the top four.

Glantaf have also made a great start, picking up three bonus-point wins so far, but have a bye this round and will have to sit and wait to see if they are still on top of the pile at the end of the week. They host Pembrokeshire College in the next round before going into a run of games against three previous winners, Coleg Sir Gar, CAVC and Coleg Gwent.

Coleg Sir Gar head west to Pembrokeshire this week, while Whitchurch HS have a local derby against Coleg Y Cymoedd. Llandrillo will hope to build on their two wins to date when they welcome Bridgend College, while Newport HS entertain Neath Port Talbot Collee and Coleg Gwent head to Gower College.
