Admiral Division 1 Round Up

18.11.21 - Wales Rugby Training - Gilbert ball with rainbow during training.

There looks like being a much tighter battle for the Admiral Division 1 title in north Wales this season than in recent years with Nant Conwy and Caernarfon stepping forward to challenge Llandudno.

The Goats were beaten 38-22 at home by Nant Conwy, who went on to make it three wins from three at the weekend with a 41-3 home triumph over COBRA.

Caernarfon, meanwhile, made it 95 points in two league outings as they piled on the points in a 64-0 home win over Dolgellau. Tomos Huw, Liam Leung and Mac Jones with two each and others from Carwyn Roberts, Owain Williams, Aled Jones and Steff Prebble scored the 10 tries for the Cofis.

Treorchy came out on top in their local derby with Mountain Ash at The Oval as they inflicted a first defeat of the season on their visitors in Admiral Division 1 East Central.

The Zebras came up with three tries in a game that had a bit of everything, including a late dust up, and their 25-15 win moved them up into second place in the table behind St Peter’s.

Logan Hutchings, Jacob Lloyd and Cerith Lloyd ran in the home tries as Treorchy moved from 10-5 ahead at the break to a commanding 10-point victory in the end.

Jordan Lloyd converted two of the home tries and kicked two penalties, while the visitors scored two tries, a conversion and penalty.

St Peter’s made it three wins out of three with their 23-22 home win over Rhydyfelin to remain one point clear at the top of the table.

Bedlinog lost their grip on top spot in the Admiral Division 1 East as they were beaten for the first time this season by Brecon.  The visitors came out on top 23-18 in a tense affair and will next meet one of only two other undefeated teams in their league, Penallta at home this weekend.

Carl Blacker and Jake Crockett scored the Brecon tries and the rest of the points came from the trusty boot of Dion McIntosh, who landed three penalties and two conversions. Gethin Coleman kicked six penalties for Bedlinog.

The Pitmen, who won the WRU Plate at the Principality Stadium last season, made it three wins from three with a convincing 29-7 home win over Monmouth, although both they and Brecon currently sit behind Newbridge who made it a hat-trick of bonus-point wins with their 55-5 demolition of Senghenydd.

Wing Cian Jones led the way for Newbridge as he ran in four of their nine tries, five of which Eamonn Rees converted. The other tries came from Sam Watkins, Matt McGovern, Zach Stuart, Luke Morgan and Michael Preece.

In Division 1 West, Felinfoel went to Crymych and had the trusty boot of their skipper and No 8 Elliot Evans for taking home a point at the end of a 12-12 draw. He kicked two penalties in each half to match those of home full back Adam Phillips.

Both teams remain unbeaten, but Gowerton hold the top spot after they notched their third successive win with a 34-14 victory at Penclawdd. Llanelli Wanderers posted their first win of the season with a 64-12 home win over Pembroke in a game that saw Lewis James score two of his side’s 10 tries on his way to a match tally of 22 points.

In Division 1 West Central, Bonymaen and Ammanford are both locked on 13 points after making in three from three at the weekend. Bony were 31-17 winners at home against Tondu, while Ammanford triumphed 29-22 at Nantyffyllon.
