Lloyd and Gage leading the way in Indigo Prem

Evan Lloyd

Ebbw Vale's Evan Lloyd is leading the way on the points scoring charts

Ebbw Vale fly half Evan Lloyd and Aberavon centre Joe Gage are setting the early pace as leading points scorer and try scorer respectively in the 2022/23 Indigo Premiership.

Lloyd has been a steadying influence behind the Steelmen pack this campaign and given some accomplished displays. He is the first player to burst through the half century mark and currently has 56 points next to his name.

His nearest challengers are Llandovery fly half Jack Maynard with 34 and Pontypridd’s Joseph Scrivens (31). Scrivens had a day with the boot he would probably want to forget against league leaders Aberavon at Sardis Road on Saturday, missing a couple of shots at goal he would normally have no trouble with.

Rhys Jones, the man with the best re-start in the business, is quietly becoming an increasing integral member of Jason Hyatt’s team at Aberavon. He gave a polished display against Ponty and his range of passing gives the dangerous backline plenty of options to attack from. The former Wales Sevens player has 29 points and it wouldn’t be a major surprise if he isn’t near the top near the business end of the season.

Joe Gage

Joe Gage is the leading try scorer in the Indigo Prem

Five bonus point victories from five games speaks volumes for the way Aberavon are trying to play the game and the fact Gage is leading the way with four tries but is just one ahead of teammates Stef Andrews, Rhodri Cole and Ashton Evans speaks volumes on how the Wizards are playing a fast paced game – collectively the squad have crossed the whitewash on 28 occasions already this season.

Two players who also have three tries are Merthyr duo Tavis Knoyle and Adam Hoskins who will go head to head with Aberavon this weekend.

Swansea winger Harri Houston and Cardiff scrum half Jamie Hill also have three tries next to their name.
