Dewi Cross was the chief executioner for the reigning champions as he continued his recent run of try scoring form by adding a hat-trick against his old club to become the top try scorer in the Premiership this season with eight.
Cross grabbed his first try with only three minutes on the clock as Cardiff kicked into the home 22 and attacked off a line-out. Three successive penalties made by Luke Price then edged the Ravens ahead, but Cross’ second try and another from prop Rhys Barrett gave Cardiff a comfortable interval lead.
Cardiff started the second half as they ended the first with Cross turning provider for Ethan Lloyd to cross or the bonus-point score. Dan Fish added the extras and then Cross went over again from a line-out in the home 22.
The Ravens pulled one back when Jordan Collier crashed over for a try that Price improved, but then Theo Bevacqua added Cardiff’s sixth try from close range. There was still time for another from the Blue & Blacks with Lloyd crossing for a second try, Harrison James this time adding the conversion.
Aberavon were beaten for the second week in a row as they fell 24-17 at home to an Ebbw Vale side who hit back from a 12 point deficit to notch a notable victory.
Home scrum half Liam Seaward got the Wizards off to a flying start with a well taken try and then followed that up with a second. Former Ebbw player Rhys Jones converted the latter to make it 12-0 to the team that had been on top of the Indigo Prem table all season.
Lewis Young then launched the fightback from the Steelmen as he spotted a gap and galloped through it to score a try that Evan Lloyd converted. Both sides were then reduced to 14 men after a heated exchange between opposing centres saw Aberavon’s Joe Thomas and Ebbw’s Ethan Phillips sent to the sin-bin.
It was 12-7 to Aberavon at the break, but the visitors didn’t waste any time in getting their noses in front in the second half as Lloyd crossed for a try which he also converted.
Scrum half Jonathan Evans paved the way for the next try to the Steelmen as he broke clear to set up the attacking position from which Chad Thomas went over. Lloyd added the extras from the touchline and then extended the lead with a penalty to take his points tally up to 14.
The Wizards were in danger of getting nothing out of the game until Andrew Waite drove over. That came moments after a mass brawl ended up in with Ebbw duo Dominic Franchi and Lewis Young being shown the red card along with Aberavon`s Jordan Walters.
