Having started with six successive bonus-point wins, the Wizards couldn’t have conjured up a better start. Now they have to get the show back on the road at Parc Eirias after a long trek north to Colwyn Bay to face RGC this afternoon (Saturday, 19 November, 3.30pm kick-off).
Having seen reigning champions Cardiff overtake them at the top following their 45-0 romp against Swansea to move six points clear, Hyatt knows the margin for error is getting smaller with every week.
But he knows the Premiership like the back of his hand these days and refuses to let any panic set in on the back of defeats to Newport and Ebbw Vale.
“That’s the Premiership for you! We could have won against both Newport and Ebbw Vale and we are still scoring lots of tries,” said Hyatt.
“We have a substantial squad, but injuries aren’t helping us. We’ve lost Dan Baker, Ashton Evans and Rhodri Hughes in recent matches, while Sam Williams and Callum Carson are also on the list.
“Obviously, we wanted to win every game, but we certainly aren’t disappointed at where we are. There are reasons behind why we lost, and we believe we can put things right.
“We have got a really tough game at RGC this weekend and then a tough month coming up. We play Pontypridd in the Premiership Cup and then meet Cardiff, Llandovery and Bridgend.
“This is a great competition, and it isn’t a flat climb to the title, it is a roller coaster ride. With the winners being determined via the play-offs, the first target is a top four finish.”
RGC head coach Ceri Jones was delighted his side picked up maximum points against Swansea last weekend, especially as they had three players in the sin-bin at the end of the game – and still managed to score their final try!
“We got what we wanted in Swansea. In the first half we showed energy and accuracy, as well as some strong defending,” said Jones.
“Looking back at when we brought on the replacements, it was probably my fault for bringing them all on at the same time. We lost a bit of momentum and allowed Swansea back into the game.
“It’s a lesson for the boys coming on though, that even if the game is in our control if you don’t get up to speed quickly then things change. We need to be ruthless and keep our foot on that peddle to make sure we don’t give teams an opportunity to get back into a game.
“We have a chance to push on with five home games up to the end of the year, including a cup game and a semi-final if we win. “
