There were six tries in each half for the home fans to savour as the Blue & Blacks piled even more misery onto the not very mighty Quins side, who slumped to their ninth defeat in 10 league outings. They remain one point above bottom of the table Bridgend, having played three games more.
The defeat at Aberavon in the previous round may have stripped Cardiff of their unbeaten record, but it also served to give them the kick up the backside they needed to take a long, hard look at themselves.
“The scoreline might make it seem a pointless exercise, but it was an important game for us. It helped us to build some good habits and improve in some key areas,” said Law.
“It wasn’t all about the winning, it was more about attention to detail in our game plan. We had to get our attitude right in certain areas and we did that.
“Now we can look forward to our Boxing Day derby against Ponty. We’ve got three training sessions before the big day and it is going to be an occasion that will respect the great traditions of the fixture.”
The Arms Park’s artificial surface meant the game was the only one to survive the big freeze and Cardiff made the most of the chance to put right the wrongs of their 30-23 defeat at Aberavon.
Having won eight games in a row before the loss to the Wizards, Law’s men got back on track and now lead Aberavon by eight points. Both teams have played 10 games, while third placed Llandovery have two games in hand and are 10 points behind the leaders.
Cardiff had the perfect start with Dan Fish crossing for the first try. The veteran outside half also went on to kick 11 conversions for a match tally of 27 points.
Hooker Efan Daniel was next to cross the line three minutes later and it soon became obvious that the Quins were struggling to cope with the home side’s physicality. Cam Winnett scored Cardiff’s third, before returning centre Hari Millard crossed for Cardiff’s bonus point try after just 22 minutes of action.
It had been a dismal start for the Quins, who had struggled to get a hold of any real threatening possession. The league’s top try scorer, Dewi Cross, then took his try tally to 12 with a fine finish on the right wing.
The home side led 42-0 at half time after Millard added a sixth try just before the break, all of which were converted by Fish. Ellis Thomas, who started in the home back row in place of skipper Morgan Allen, added another try for the hosts on the hour mark.
Millard then completed his hat-trick before Nathan Hudd hit an excellent line to score try. Will Keep and Jacob Lloyd completed the rout.
