With Crymych’s game against Newcastle Emlyn called off due to bad weather, it meant both Llangennech and Aberystwyth were able to put pressure on the top two sides in the fight for the title.

Only four points split the top five teams, with Crymych in front on 33 points and Felinfoel in fifth on 29 after their 32-15 triumph at Whitland. Llangennech are now second on 30 points, the same as Newcastle Emlyn and Aberystwyth, and have a game in hand on the leaders

No 8 John Saunders helped himself to three of the home tries and outside half Luke Davies picked up two to add to 10 conversions for a match tally of 30 points. There were also two tries each for Louis Rees, Tom Barnes and Tom Davies, with Shaun Edwards, Joe Williams and Steff Marshall also getting over the line.

“Having missed so much rugby this season it was great that Pembroke were able to come to us for what was only out second home game. It has been incredibly frustrating for everyone,” said Llangennech head coach, Ian Jones.

“Pembroke admitted they were in a division too high for them this season, but they have honoured their fixtures and we applaud them for that. We bought them a couple of jugs of beer after the game and they stayed behind which was great.”

Elsewhere, Aberystwyth also moved onto 30 points after beating Penclawdd 65-0. The visitors picked up their try bonus point within half an hour as they condemned Penclawdd to a seventh defeat in nine games.  Aber host Crymych this weekend in a vital clash.

Ammanford continued to pile on the pressure on Division 1 West Central leaders Bonymaen thanks to an impressive 55-5 win against Brynamman. Cai Richards opened the scoring for the hosts inside five minutes and then Owain Thomas stuck twice as the score rose to 31-0 at the break

Nant Conwy continued their excellent start to the season as they made in nine out of nine to maintain their unbeaten run and move 11 points clear at the top. Their game at Pwllheli was a repeat of last season’s North Wales Cup final and a 24-10 victory meant Nant came away with the spoils once again.

Defeat meant Pwllheli fall to fourth spot following Caernarfon’s tight 19-12 win against Llangefni. Ruthin held on to second spot after being made to work hard for a 13-12 win against ninth placed Bethesda, while Bala moved above COBRA with a clinical 24-0 bonus point victory against Dolgellau.

In Division 1 East, Newbridge moved 18 points clear at the top thanks to a 29-9 home win over Dowlais to make it 10 out of 10 this season to remain locked with Nant Conwy as the only unbeaten teams in the WRU National Leagues below the Championship this season.

Sam Harding, Luke Moran, Matthew Davies, Cian Jones and Jnony Paynter grabbed the tries for Newbridge, while Eamonn Rees kicked two conv versions. Dowlais had three penalties from Evan Thomas.
