Bargoed’s 54-21 win over Glamorgan Wanderers brought their current campaign to a close and moved them up into second placed behind unbeaten Pontypool.
Their victory moved them up into second place and set a target for Neath to chase to gain promotion. Neath have three games to play and need four or more points to join Pontypool in returning to the Indigo Premiership next season.
Condy was cruelly forced to retire at the age of 23 through injury, but immediately stepped into coaching at his former club Penallta. After working with the Youth team and was involved in coaching the Dragons U18 side the the Regional Age Grade title in 2021-22.
Having played for both Penallta and Cross Keys during his younger days, he then moved on to become the head coach at Pandy Park. A WRU Level 3 qualified coach, Condy has been invited on to the Level 4 Programme.
Condy will join an established coaching and management team at Bargoed Park. Current coaches and ex-players Gareth Richards, Anthony Lott and Lee Pearson will continue as assistant coaches.
Pearson will now be responsible for player transition, as well as S&C and skills. Jeremy Rogers will continue as director of rugby and Brett Wakefield will also remain as 1st XV team manager.
“Jack is a young coach with huge potential who has already proven himself coaching in the Championship. He will have plenty of experience around him to drive this team as we look for further success next season,” said Bargoed chairman, Neil Carter.
“It’s important to recognise the good work of outgoing coaches Mike Pugsley and Rhys Buckley, who have done a great job with us in their time at the club.”
Bargoed only lost four times during the season – twice to Pontypool, and once each to Neath and Ystrad Rhonnda.
“It’s clear that Bargoed have ambitions to progress on and off the field. That excites me, especially with the current group of players at the club who have so much experience,” said Condy.
“There are some very talented youngsters coming through who will learn and develop over the next couple of years from the current group of senior players.”
