With only one league defeat this season after their eight try, 54-3 demolition of Ponty, Morris knows his side will need to up the ante when they head to Cardiff next week. After that they host Ebbw Vale before heading to the home of reigning champions, Llandovery.
Their big midweek win made up their one game in hand on the teams above them and took them two points clear at the top of the table that night. That shows the potential in Morris’ revised squad this season.
“We keep on winning, which is always nice, and the important thing is we are building momentum. I’m pleased with how we’re performing, but everyone knows what lies ahead,” said Morris.
“The next three games will really let us know where we stand. It’s nice getting to the top of the table, but staying there is the important thing.
“We’ve already been to Cardiff once this season in the cup, and lost, now we have to go back to the Arms Park before heading into a crucial Gwent derby against Ebbw Vale. Then we head to the home off the champions, Llandovery.
“Things are building nicely, the players are responding to what we’re asking them to do, and it was nice to see a ruthless edge at the end against Ponty.”
Having picked up a bonus-point by the break, their four converted tries making it 28-3, there were no points in the game between the 41st – 72nd minutes. Then Henry Palmer, who had picked up a yellow card in the first half, drove over twice and Chay Smith and Dafydd Buckland completed the rout.
In the first half, Ponty took the lead with a second minute penalty from Josh Phillips. Elliot Frewen, Matt O’Brien, Oli Andrew and Carwyn Penny responded with tries before the interval, all of which Penny improved on his way to a match haul of 19 points.
