Caerphilly RFC introduced rugby to a group of new fans from Ukraine

Caerphilly RFC hosted a group of Ukrainian refugees today, giving them a taste of Wales and Welsh Rugby.

The visit was organised by Caerphilly RFC chairman Gareth Ashman while Mr Wayne David MP was also in attendance.

The group, of around 40 adults and children received a warm welcome from Caerphilly RFC, being presented with Caerphilly RFC bobble hats to thank them for their support for the day.

Prior to the match the Ukranian group were welcomed to Caerphilly RFC by Gareth Ashman and WRU East Wales Rugby GM Adrian Evans.

They then received a presentation introducing rugby and how it is played in Wales from WRU Female Rugby Officers Ashleigh Collier and Kira Philpott. The Ukranian children then undertook some rugby activities with WRU Community coaches Natalia Barnes and Nikitta Olsen.

The group then watched the Division two game between Caerphilly and Llantwit Fardre before enjoying a post-match meal in the clubhouse with representatives of Caerphilly RFC. The group were then given items of kit and clothing courtesy of Caerphilly RFC and their sponsors.
