The UWIC students crashed out 17-6 at Builth Wells, though the home side have lost ace kicker Rob Lloyd on Army duty for six weeks. George Jekins took over and kicked four penalties, while skipper Lyndon Hammonds scored a lone try against two Rhys Edwards penalties.
Narbarth were losing 20-13 at home to Bridgend Athletic after 40 minutes, but former Wales wing Richard Rees scored three of the six second-half tries in a 34-23 win.
In all, they ran in seven tries with Elgan Vittle, Sion Brace, Gary Denver and Kick Jones crossing and Gareth James landed 12 points with a late Scott Penny conversion. Skipper Stuart Morris converted Athletic tries by wing Dafydd Pound and scrum half Danny Williams and landed a penalty hat-trick.
Carmarthen Athletic fly half Lee Williams outkicked Bonymaen’s Paul Warlow 3-2 on penalties in a 9-6 win.
Maesteg moved to second by defeating Llangennech 34-20 with tries by centre Gareth Holmes (2), prop Gareth Edwards and hooker Lee Williams. Mark David goaled them all and placed two penalties, while wing Mike Davies scored a brace of tries for Llangennech and James Belfry added both conversions and two penalties.
Maesteg have lost skipper Karl Hocking for the seasson as he has to have a knee reconstruction following injury against Whitland last month.
