Born in Seven Sisters, Mr Gethin enjoyed a hugely successful career in both rugby and the law. He was the 11th and last secretary of the WRU – the role became CEO in 2002 – and the 40th President of the union between 2007-19.

His 12-year stint as President made him the second longest serving person in that office, behind Horace Lyne, who served from 1906-47. He was also chairman of the Trustees of the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust.

The memorial match has been arranged in honour of Mr Gethin who was a much loved figure in Welsh rugby. A village lad whose roots were forever in the village of Seven Sisters, he played for the club whenever his studies allowed, until joining Cardiff RFC following his graduation from Cambridge University.

The proceeds of the match are to be donated to the Welsh Rugby Union Charitable Trust for injured players, a trust which was near to his heart as Patron.

Tickets for the game are £5 per ticket (available at the gate on the day – the option to consider making a donation of £10 will also be available), with all proceeds being donated in the memory of Dennis to this most worthy of causes.
