Lloyd amassed 244 points to finish comfortably ahead of nearest challenger, Pontypool’s Matthew Jarvis who completed the season with 223 points – albeit with a slightly better success rate with 78% compared to Lloyd’s 70%. However, of all the place kickers, it was Newport talisman Matt O’Brien who had the best success rate with 79% – O’Brien also found himself the fourth highest points scorer with 190 points, just a conversion behind RGC’s Sam Earl-Jones.
Newport winger Lloyd Lewis and Llandovery hooker Taylor Davies couldn’t be seperated at the top of the try scoring charts, with both bagging 17 tries apiece from their league campaign.
Both had a chance to edge each other out in last week’s Indigo Prem final at Church Bank, but the Llandovery defence held Lewis in check for most parts while the Black & Ambers pack kept Davies at bay when the Drovers piled forward close to the line in an evenly contested finale to the season.
Although he suffered a defeat as Newport captain last weekend, Ben Roach deserves a huge pat on the back. He started in all 26 games he played for the Black & Ambers and was on the pitch more than any other player throughout a demanding season – 2214 minutes to be exact, 51 minutes more than second placed Ebbw Vale’s Ethan Phillips.
