Glamorgan Wanderers improved their promotion chances with a 31-8 win at Fleur de Lys, that puts them six points in front of Whitland with three matches remaining. Mark Heywood goaling all four Wanderers tries and placed a penalty.
Whitland, who still have to meet the Wanderers, kept alive their hopes of promotion with a 29-3 win at Carmarthen as Aled Davies scored two tries, three conversions and a penalty and there were 42 points shared by Llangennech and Narberth though Llangennech led 3-2 on the try-count.
DIVISION TWO
Wins by Waunarlwydd and Cwmllynfell in the West have almost guarranteed them both promotion, while in the East, leaders Ystrad Rhondda won at Brynithel but the chase goes on behind them for second spot and Abercynon had a splendid 29-7 win over Llantwit Fardre as Merthyr loomed dangerous with a 93-0 beating of Hirwaun. Tredegar halted their slide with a convincing 40-12 victory over Croesyceiliog.
Waunarlwydd’s 30-12 win away to Corus and Cwmllynfell’s 37-21 success at Pencoed came at the top of the West, but the battle is more for relegation spots and there were away losses for Tondu, Newcastle Emlyn, Nantymoel and Cwmavon.
DIVISION 3
The big match of Three was in the South-East, that saw Rhydyfelin win 23-13 at Mountain Ash to complete the double over their opponents, while North Walians Ruthin had a superb 40-3 win over Barry.
In the East, champions Bargoed played their 53rd match unbeaten as they downed Talywain by 78-14, while the race for second continued as the next four clubs all won.
Loughor look home and dry in the West, despite losing 22-20 at home to third-placed Penclawdd, as Gorseinon, in second spot, had an astonishing 42-31 home loss to lowly Llandeilo.
South-West leaders Maesteg Quins resumed winning ways by beating Nantyffyllon 20-7. Seven Siasters and Aberavon Quins are the clubs leading the chase, but bottom club Glynneath gained only their second win as they held off Ammanford by 25-19.
DIVISION 4
Fairwater beat Aberdare 15-6 in the top-of-the-table game of the South-East and Penarth are making a late promotion bid ater winning 54-25 at Dowlais.
Amman Utd suffered a shock reverse in the West as they fell 49-18 at Laugharne, but have won the title with a game to play, though Laugharne have to watch that they are not pipped for runners-up by Cefneithin.
East leaders Pontllanfraith crashed out 29-7 away to Newport HSOB but have won the title as they lead their victors by seven points with one game remaining, while Tredegar Ironsides have to be watched in third place.
North’s top game was called off as Llandudno’s pitch was waterlogged and leaders Llangefni kicked their heels, now needing three points from three games after old defeated Rhyl by 68-7.
Tonna captured the South-West title after trailing Resolven for nearly all the season. Their 22-7 win at Heol y Cyw took them one point ahead with one match still to play.
DIVISION 5
Garndiffaith need one more win to be promoted from the East after beating Abertillery BG by 46-13 and would overtake St Alban’s, who beat local rivals St Joseph’s 18-15 in their final match. Champions Nantyglo won their 22nd successive league match, beating Caldicot 47-3 to end their season on a high note.
Pembroke’s 25-25 draw at Penygroes means that New Dock Stars have one last chance to gain the West title. Pembroke lead by a point with both clubs having one game remaining. Biggest shock was Llanybydder’s 40-0 win over St David’s.
Penallta ran riot in the South-East, thrashing Canton 107-0, and Porth scored a good 35-7 win over Cefn Coed, but Cilfynydd still lead after defeating Rhiwbina 24-8.
In the South-West, Abercrave lead by four points, but Birchgrove still have two matches left in which to snatch the title after Abercrave won their final match by 38-0 at Crynant and Birchgrove were winners by 42-10 away to bottom club Pontardawe.
There was little change in the North as champions Bala ended their season by beating Rhayader 52-0 and promoted Bethesda closed their program with a 38-12 win over bottom club Rhos. Bro Ffestiniog’s last match brought a 14-13 win at Machynlleth.
