WRU LEAGUE DIVISIONAL STRUCTURE FOR 2005-06

Premier Division (16 clubs)
Division One Champions Maesteg and runners-up Glamorgan Wanderers are promoted to join 14 clubs who played Premiership rugby last season. The clubs relegated are Caerphilly, Llanharan and Newbridge. Thus, the division is reduced from 17 to 16 clubs.


Division 1 (16)
There are nine clubs remaining from last season’s Division 1 and these are joined by Cwmllynwell (2 West champions), Waunarlwydd (2 West r/up), Ystrad Rhondda (2 East champions) and Merthyr (2 East r/up) In addition, Caerphilly, Llanharan and Newbridge are relegated from the Premier Division. With Maesteg and Glamorgan Wanderers promoted and Carmarthen Athletic, Bridgend Athletic, Tonmawr and Brynmawr relegated, the division is thus increased from 15 to 16.



Division 2 East (14)
This comprises eight clubs from last season. Brynmawr are relegated from Division 1 and Bargoed (3 East champions), Pill Harriers (3 East r/up), Rhydyfelin (3 S.E champions) and Mountain Ash (3 S.E r/up) are promoted.  Natymoel move in from 2 West. Out go the promoted clubs Ystrad Rhondda and Merthyr and the four relegated teams, Treherbert, Hirwaun, Treorchy and Risca.



Division 2 West (14)
This comprises seven clubs from last season. Carmarthen Athletic, Bridgend Athletic and Tonmawr are relegated from Division 1. Loughor (3 West champions), Gorseinon (3 West r/up),Maesteg Quins (3 S.W champions) and Seven Sisters (3 S.W r/up) are promoted. Nantymoel move over to 2 East and also out are promoted Cwmllynfell and Waunarlwydd and the relegated teams, Newcastle Emlyn, Cwmavon, Pencoed and Tondu.



Division 3 East (14)
This comprises 10 clubs from last season. Fairwater (4 S.E champions) and Pontllanfraith (4 East champions) are promoted, while Risca are relegated from 2 East and Nelson switch from 3 South-East. Out go the promoted clubs Bargoed and Pill Harriers and the relegated teams Talywain and Dinas Powys.



Division 3 West (14)
This comprises 10 clubs from last season. Amman United (4 West champions), Laugharne (4 West r/up) and Llangefni (4 North champions) are promoted, while Newcastle Emlyn are relegated from 2 West. Out go the promoted Loughor and Gorseinon along with the relegated Cardigan and Llandeilo.



Division 3 South-East (14)
This comprises nine clubs from last season. Aberdare (4 S.E r/up) are promoted, while relegated clubs Treherbert, Hirwaun, Pencoed and Treorchy join them. Out go the promoted Rhydyfelin and Mountain Ash and the relegated Penygraig and Dinas Powys. Nelson switch to 3 East.



Division 3 South-West (14)
This comprises 10 clubs from last season, who are joined by Tonna (champions) and Resolven from 4 South-West and the relegated Cwmavon and Tondu. Out go the promoted Maesteg Quins and Seven Sisters and the relegated Ammanford and Glynneath.



Division 4 East (12)
This comprises nine clubs from last season. Nantyglo (5 East champions) and Garndiffaith (5 East r/up) are promoted, while Talywain are relegated to this division. Out go the relegated Ynysddu and Llanhilleth and the promoted Pontllanfraith. Tredegar Ironsides remain in the division after finishing as runners-up. They lost a play-off match against Llangefni (4 North champions).



Division 4 West (12)
This comprises seven clubs from last season. Pembroke (5 West champions) and New Dock Stars (5 West r/up) are promoted. Cardigan, Llandeilo and Ammanford are all relegated to this division. Out go the promoted Amman United and Laugharne and the relegated Burry Port, Betws and Gowerton.



Division 4 South-East (12)
This comprises eight clubs from last season. Penallta (5 S.E champions) and either Cilfynydd or Porth * (5 S.E r/up) are promoted and Penygraig and Dinas Powys join as relegated sides. Out go the relegated Pontyclun and Rhigos and the promoted Fairwater and Aberdare.



Division 4 South-West (12)
This comprises eight clubs from last season. Birchgrove (5 S.W champions) and Abercrave (5 S.W r/up) are promoted and Pontycymmer and Glynneath join the division as relegated sides. Out go the relegated Ystradgynlais and Pyle and the promoted Tonna and Resolven.



Division 4 North (10)
With last season’s champions Llangefni having moved to 3 West, the division is reduced to 10 clubs. Llandudno and Rhyl & District are relegated to 5 North and replaced by Bala (5 North champions) and Bethesda (5 North r/up).



Division 5 East (12)
This comprises 10 clubs from last season, plus the relegated Ynysddu and Llanhilleth. Out go the promoted Nantyglo and Garndiffaith.



Division 5 West (14)
This comprises 10 clubs from last season, who are joined by the relegated Burry Port, Betws and Gowerton. Out go the promoted Pembroke and New Dock Stars. There will again be a bye team each week.



Division 5 South-East (12)
The division reduces from 13 to 12 clubs. There are 11 teams from last season, who are joined by the relegated Pontyclun. Out go the promoted Penallta and either Cilfynydd or Porth *.



Division 5 South-West (13)
The division increases from 12 to 14 clubs. There are 10 teams from last season, who are joined by the relegated Ystradgynlais, Pyle and Rhigos. Out go the promoted Birchgrove and Abercrave.



Division 5 North (10)
Bala and Bethesda are promoted and replaced by the relegated Llandudno and Rhyl & District.



* There will be a final decision on whether Cilfynydd or Porth are promoted from Division 5 South-East to Division 4 South-East at a WRU meeting on 13 July.
