Facilities and Investment
The main areas of responsibility within the Club Operations Team include:
- Welsh Rugby Union Facilities Grant
- Assisting Clubs to access external funding opportunities
- Project Development & Planning
- Facilities Technical Guidance
- Advice & Support
The WRU Facilities Grant is available for all clubs to apply for, and is now closely aligned with the Welsh Rugby Standards. All Club Secretaries will have received the clubs Welsh Rugby Standards level in August 2017. Projects which are highlighted in the ‘Facilities’ pillar of the Welsh Rugby Standards will be given priority.
Please note that the Facilities Grant looks to support projects which demonstrate evidence that they will result in an increase of Rugby Participation, and/or Club Sustainability.
Clubs can submit one application per season. Any previous Facilities Grant awards must be completed prior to subsequent applications.
Funding Rounds are held throughout each Season with grants available up to £25,000 (£50,000 for collaborative projects).

The WRU Pitch Improvement Fund is available for all clubs to apply for to improve grassed playing and training facilities. Projects will be considered to improve both primary and secondary drainage projects.
Clubs can submit only one application to either the Pitch Improvement Fund or Facilities Grant per season. Any previous grant awards must be completed prior to subsequent applications being made.
Any clubs considering improvement to their grass pitches, or are experiencing drainage issues should in the first instance visit the ‘GRASS’ section of our website offering support and guidance.
All Clubs wishing to apply to the Pitch Improvement Fund will need to demonstrate engagement with the GRASS programme prior to making an application.
