The WRU Referee department is committed to the development of referees, referee development is a vital part of our game and our aim is to development referees to be the best they can be, whether they want to aspire to be a professional referee or be a community referee. We also have referees who engaged with school, mini and junior games.

The referee department will recruit, develop and retain referees to service all levels of the game in Wales. Any referee coming to our game will have a clear process to develop and be a part of our game in Wales.

Key aims of Referee Development

  • Develop the an educational pathway for referees through formal, non-formal courses and continuous professional development sessions
  • Develop a digital platform that supports the referee through videos and best practice
  • Develop a mentoring process that supports the development of the referee
