RTB Ebbw Vale receives makeover
Wales hooker Huw Bennett went back to his roots to ensure members of RTB Ebbw Vale rugby club will be able to watch Wales in action in a little bit more style and comfort than usual.
The Ospreys star was part of the RBS RugbyForce team that spent a day painting and decorating the RTB clubhouse as part of the Championship sponsor’s community programme.
Bennett was joined by Dragons back row man Dan Lydiate and Wales wing legend Ieuan Evans in picking up a paint brush as part of the scheme.
“I was born in Ebbw Vale so it was good to come home and give a helping hand for such a good cause. My decorating skills aren’t very good, but I was happy to get involved in such a good cause,” said Bennett.
RTB was well supported on the day – as well as the rugby stars, there were also representatives from the Welsh Assembly Government (the Deputy Minister for Housing and Regeneration, Jocelyn Davies AM), Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council (including the leader Des Hillman), and the Welsh Rugby Union (Head of Operations Tim Burton, Vice Chairman of the Board, Ken Hewitt and Chairman of the Regulatory Committee, Mal Beynon).
Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust Chairman, Russell Goodway commented, “We are delighted to help clubs such RTB Ebbw Vale RFC fund improvements to their facilities through the Welsh Rugby Union Facility Grants Scheme. This club prides itself on grassroots delivery and our financial support will help transfer the sports ground at Hilltop Ebbw Vale to community ownership, providing a good quality rugby venue in an area affected by the economic downturn.”
