Principality is the latest blue chip company to form a new partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union after it was announced Wales’ meeting with South Africa at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday 5th June (kick-off 2.30pm) is to be known as the ‘Principality Building Society Summer Test’.

The Springboks visit Wales the week before Warren Gatland and his players embark on a tough two-Test tour of New Zealand and the current world champions have caught the imagination already with over 40,000 tickets sold over a month out from the fixture.

The Principality is associating itself with what could be an historic day coming almost 11 years after Wales’ only win over South African opposition – the 29-19 victory at the Millennium Stadium’s inaugural match in June 1999 – as it celebrates its own 150th anniversary year.

“We are two organisations which are right at the very heart of Wales and our growing association is to the mutual benefit of the society’s members and Welsh rugby fans alike,” said Craig Maxwell, WRU head of sales and marketing, who also announced that one of Principality’s members will win the chance to present the Prince William Cup to the winners alongside other promotions to be run in the build up to the game.

“Principality have a long history of supporting Welsh rugby, they have been a mainstay of our Principality Premiership competition since 2005, but we are both excited about working together for the first time on an international match.”

Commenting on the partnership, Graeme Yorston, Chief Operating Officer at Principality Building Society, said:

“The Principality Building Society Summer Test is the perfect mix of tradition and innovation which will capture the enthusiasm and patriotism of people across the country.

“In our very special anniversary year we wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to the people of Wales and our support of one of the biggest, most unique events on the welsh calendar this year, is our way of saying Diolch!”
